The Team Building Tour for Optron Geomatics was a huge success. A very big thank you to Trevor and Charles and the Optron staff from Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban for participating with such enthusiasm. Also thank you to Lake Eland for providing us with superb accommodation and food as always and lastly thanks to our race team boys – Wayne and Nick for helping out with the rides.
The Sivadia crew left Durban early on the Wednesday morning and arrived at Lake Eland mid morning to prepare for the afternoons ride and greet the guests who had flown in from Johannesburg and Cape Town and driven from Durban. After a delicious lunch the group set off for their afternoon gentle cycle to the Suspension Bridge.
Thursday morning was rather chilly and a later start than planned due to a bit of a late night the previous evening 🙂 Needless to say What goes on tour, stays on tour ! Most people cycled down to Lake Eland to be met by the aroma of eggs, bacon and sausages. There was also fresh fruit and porridge for hungry cyclists. The 3 teams started off their tasks and were met with some challenges, one being the decision to raft to the floating tube or swim. Due to the intense competition, all 3 teams urged their members to swim, as having to navigate their self assembled rafts around the island would have been time consuming. This turned out to be a rather nippy exercise as the swimmers plunged into the icy waters. Once they were at the floating tube, the PVC pipe that was tied to it had to be taken back to the team and the objective was to use the PVC pipe as a means to fill a bucket which was suspended in the air at the foofy slide. Once the bucket was heavy enough, it dropped to the ground and raised the flag which was held down by a brick. Team Durban’s flag was the first to flutter, thus giving them the bragging rights as the 2010 champions. The more adventurous rode back to base while the others took advantage of the vehicle and everybody enjoyed a most welcome lunch. There was a unanimous group decision to relax in the afternoon rather than ride, as the weather was really unpleasant. Dinner was supposed to be eaten at the boma, but it really was too cold and miserable to enjoy this venue, so back to the comfort of the conference centre for the meal and prize giving.
The group departed on Friday shortly after breakfast, as they had flights to catch home. A most enjoyable time was had and well done to Team Durban for winning the 2010 Optron Geomatics team building.
Tour dates for 2011 will be out shortly. We plan to have numerous new options to these tours, in an effort to cater for everybody.
We are saying a fond farewell to one of our race team members – Brandon, as he and Julia prepare to welcome their new baby into the world.
